Straight River Channels
Straight channels contain alternating regions of riffles and pools.
During low flows, riffles are regions of shallow, rapid flow.
The velocity of water in pools is lower than in the riffles during low flows.
Straight channels migrate laterally (from side to side) much slower than meandering channels.
Deeply incised channels (such as those in canyons) cannot migrate at all.
