Runoff

During years of normal snow accumulation in the mountains and normal spring temperatures, rivers rise, but flooding generally does not occur.

Flooding may occur, however, when spring temperatures rise suddenly or when snow accumulation is above normal, or both.

Rain occuring during periods of snowmelt may also increase the chance of flooding.

Flash flooding may occur after heavy thunderstorms. Flash floods may cause damage to property, crops, livestock, and human life.
