The North Platte River Basin drains 1,431 square miles.

Major reservoirs in the North Platte River Basin include Walden Reservoir, MacFarlane Reservoir, and Lake John.

Major tributaries to the North Platte include the Canadian, Michigan, and Illinois Rivers.

Water Quality in the North Platte River Basin


Low flows at the lower end of the system during certain months may result in water quality problems for certain areas.
