Controls on Colorado's Climate

Five major factors govern Colorado's climate.

Latitude--distance north from the equator

Continental position--remoteness from large bodies of water and the proximity to large, varied land masses

Elevation--ranging from less than 4,000 feet to more than 14,000 feet above sea level

Topography--ranging from vast plains to mountains

Winter storm track position

These controls act together, to produce the many different "microclimates" of Colorado.
